As well as providing sustainable transport infrastructure fo Taunton's visitors, the Park 'n Glide provides a gateway visitor centre and a unique attraction in the form of a reconstruction of an innovative James Green boat lift, the first lifts ever to operate anywhere in the world.  The visitor centre provides an interactive introduction to Somerset's industrial heritage and offers visitors a chance to operate the lift manually, demonstrating how efficiently the counter-balanced caissons raised heavy cargoes.

The centre creates a venue for a range of activities and trip boats offer short experiences of the long-gone life on Britain's industrial waterways, including operation of the lift 'from the inside'.
